Alida Engel, CCC-SLP, BCS-SCF*
Speech and Language Pathologist Alida Engel, CCC-SLP, BCS-SCF* has over 50 years of experience in Connecticut private and public schools, and in her private practice in New Haven, Connecticut. Articles about and by her have appeared in the New York Times, the New Haven Register, the Bridgeport Post and the New Haven Advocate, and she has been featured on Connecticut Public Radio.
Alida Engel has shifted her services to on-line teletherapy in most cases. Over these many years, she has worked with both adults and children. However, she no longer works with children younger than 8 unless they are stuttering. She provides a free, 15 minute telephone consultation on any speech concern.
She is licensed in Connecticut and Massachusetts.
Alida Engel, CCC-SLP, BCS-SCF* is a board certified specialist in stuttering, cluttering, and fluency. There are only 153 such practitioners in the US and Canada. BCS-SCFs have a high level of clinical expertise in treating fluency disorders, possess advanced knowledge, and have demonstrated a commitment to serving people with fluency disorders. The BCS-SCF designation is a program of the American Speech, Language, and Hearing Association (ASHA).
Alida has made many presentations on speech and language issues. She has spoken to the Connecticut Speech-Language-Hearing Association on “Pre-School Stuttering Therapy: Lidcombe and Other Approaches.” She trained pre-school teachers across Connecticut in “Teaching Language in the Natural Environment.” She has lectured at the Yale School of Nursing about “Early Identification of Speech and Language Development,” and also to nurses and doctors at St. Raphael’s Hospital (now part of Yale-New Haven Hospital). Alida Engel led workshops on ‘Finding the Voice You Want’ at True Colors conferences — the country’s largest LGBTQ+ youth gatherings. Alida Engel was featured in an episode of Audacious with Chion Wolf on Connecticut Public Radio.
Alida Engel has earned 21 Awards for Continuing Education (ACEs*), testifying to her personal commitment to ongoing professional learning following the attainment of her degree in speech pathology. Her 21 awards place her among those who have accumulated the most ACEs in the country. (*Each ACE represents 10 hours of high-level study.)
Alida Engel strives, through her continuing professional education choices, to maintain currency in major areas of speech therapy, so that she can offer her patients state-of-the-art diagnoses and treatment. Over the years, she has steadily updated her knowledge and refined her skills, attending conferences and seminars, participating in workshops, and innovating professionally in many areas including:
